THE 2021 TOURNAMENT OF HEARTS CURLING POOL

Hi all! Hope you're hanging in there with this stupid pandemic still raging! Or cooling a bit, depending on where you live. So a friend sent me some interesting information about Chelsea Carey taking over skipping duties for Tracy Fleury's team... And thought... gee what else do I have to do? Other than work, of course. Guess I wasn't sure the Hearts was going to happen. Well it is! (And the Brier too!) Covid style! So here we go then... The Hearts Pool for 2021! Covid style! It's almost here so let's get going then!

THE HEARTS AND BRIER TOURNAMENTS HAVE CHANGED AGAIN. Yes, this year's Hearts and Brier are going with a slightly altered format from last year. It is best described right here:
Pools, format released for 2021 Scotties... OR, see a little farther down for my explanation in "How has it changed?"

OK let's get at those Pool documents!

How has it changed?
How has the Hearts tournament changed from last year?
1. No Wild Card "Play-in" game, there are 3 Wild Card teams, and they all play, and the Round Robin draw starts Friday Evening, Feb. 19.
2. There are now 18 participating teams in two Pools of 9 teams, Pool A and Pool B.
3. No change here, the top 4 teams in the standings in each Pool A and Pool B advance to a "Championship Round" and play 4 more games each, all against the other Pool's top 4 teams. (Bottom 5 teams in both pools are GONE.)
4. Now only the top 3 teams after the Championship Round go on, to a Semifinal and Final game, NO Page Playoff round.

POOL FORMAT! We continue with the new pool format from last year, only slightly modified. You will have to:
1. Pick a bunch of Round Robin games (no change here);
2. Pick the top 4 teams in each of Pool A and Pool B who you think will advance to the Championship Round (no change here either);
3. (Different here) Pick who you think will finish 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the overall standings, and play the Semifinal and Final matches (There is NO page playoff!!); and
4. Apply rank points to all your selections (same as before). That's it!

POOL ENTRY FEE! Once again, since there's only 2 curling pools this spring, we will continue with the new higher entry fee. As suggested by some of you. The Hearts and Brier pools entry fees are $5.00! Yes it's higher. But don't forget, the prizes will be that much higher too! And 2 pools for $10 as opposed to the previous 4 pools for $8. Only heard good feedback last year (that I remember), so, let's do it again!

NOTE! I won't actually see pretty much any of you in person. So we'll have to be creative about how to pay entry fees. Still due at the start of the pool! Give or take a day or two. E-transfer, snail mail, or a nice distanced outdoor visit! Oh yeah! Or of course if you have a pool credit, from previous winnings, you're covered!

Important Sites:

Curling Canada's 2021 Tournament of Hearts Event Site You can find completed draw scores here!
2019-2020 CTRS TEAM RANKINGS See how all the Women's teams are ranked! This is where I got the rankings on the entry form. There really hasn't been a 2020-2021 season, so this is as up-to-date as it gets!

Fun Stuff:

* Hey, listen to the song "Tournament Of Hearts" while you're making your picks! It might inspire you to win the pool! Official Weakerthans video from Epitaph Records.
* What the... who says yoga and curling don't mix? (Not responsible for the "related videos", don't look at them!!)
* Curling 8 Ender! From a game between Kelly Scott and Cathy King... ouch! (5 min. 19 seconds)
* Kaitlyn Lawes Quadruple Takeout! Very nice!!
* The Big Shot! Jennifer Jones's 2005 Shot of the Tournament

Really old TSN Reports from the distant past:
* Colleen Jones wins fourth straight Scott title!
* Larouche advances to Scott final!

That’s all I’ve got for now. You know, it's like... I can't feel my face when I'm with you. But I love it. Oh baby!
